3.2. From the “Roof of the World”: Uzbekistan, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan.
During the period of “real socialism”, Uzbekistan (table 2.19.d Uzbekistan wine grape varieties) with Samarkand, obligated passage on the Silk Road, saw the flourishing of a notable viticulture and winemaking school, which was also an important center for research and the spread of European and, in particular, Georgian vine varieties.
The other countries (Table 2.19.e Viticulture in other countries of the “Roof of the World”) produce a table or dried grapes.
