3. C1, C2, C3. “MIRROR” VITICULTURE

China, Japan, South Korea, Uzbekistan, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan viticulture vine varieties

China, Japan, South Korea, Uzbekistan, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan viticulture vine varieties.

In these countries, we can observe original and atypical viticulture. In particular, in China, Japan, and India concentrate the expectations of global vine-growing and wine-producing, which are markets in the gradual expansion of European and world wines.

3.1. China, Japan and South Korea

Literature of the sector and “reports” by those who think to know about the different vine-growing and wine-producing areas, cannot equal the journalist Luigi Barzini (1874-1947), who was capable of in-depth knowledge and analysis of anything about China.

Hic Sunt dracones ("here there are dragons"): it is difficult, if not impossible, to get certain data about wine-grape varieties in the “Celestial Empire.” We must remember that “wine,” in the Chinese language, is a general word for any alcoholic drink, and in China, it is often made by fermenting rice.

Wine grape viticulture in China (table 2.19.a China wine grape varieties), based on European varieties, is consciously situated in the Shandong peninsula, the only area with suitable soil and climate for the Vitis vinifera.

  China

For Japan (table 2.19.b Japan: hybrid and native vine varieties) and South Korea (table 2.19.c South Kores hybrid and native vine varieties) viticulture is oriented to the production of table grapes
